An artist book, made within the context of the workshop "Survival Recipes", which I co-ordinated, together with Sofia Grigoriadou, Alkistis-Lara Papadaki and Elpida Rikou, at or.artspace, as part of the bigger framework of the festival HEAVEN(S) https://heavens.gr/.
Recipes are texts or narratives, sometimes accompanied by images, that guide the creation of dishes and reveal their composition. In this workshop, we borrowed this familiar and well-known process to explore, through the visual treatment of food (and beyond), the issue of survival in the art world in Greece; specifically, artistic precariousness and working conditions both within and outside institutions, as well as the possibilities for non-institutional sustainability of independent artistic collectives.
My contribution to the workshop was a handmade recipe book, reflecting on how to survive within the artwork. From hunter-gatherer practices, to actual recipes for healing stress-related maladies, to artists' food projects, this book is a brainstorming taking shape on paper.
