Recipes for survival

A participatory workshop, in the framework of the festival PARADEISI / H(E)AVENS (https://polychorosket.gr/en/events/heavens-en/) – a four-day event for the intervention of private foundations in the field of culture (Athens, 7-10 December 2023).
Recipes are texts or a kind of narrative, sometimes with images, that guide the creation of dishes and also reveal their composition. In the workshop Recipes of Survival we borrow this familiar and well-known process to elaborate, through the visual management of food (and not only), the issue of survival in the art world in Greece; specifically, artistic precariousness and working conditions outside and inside institutions, as well as the possibilities of non-institutional viability of independent artistic forms. Inventing peculiar recipes or misrepresenting other, established ones, we collectively reflect on the methods we have found from time to time to survive artistically, the ways in which they suit us or not, nourish us, please us or make us uncomfortable, while together imagining new “dishes” we wish to taste.
Participants: Aphrodite Anastopoulou, Maria Glyka, Sofia Grigoriadou, Dimitra Kondylatou, Mrs. Lela, Alkisti Lara Papadaki, Elpida Rikou, Steriani Tsintziloni, Christina Fragodimitraki, Iliana Fylla.
Workshop coordination: Sophia Grigoriadou, Dimitra Kondylatou, Alkisti Lara Papadaki, Elpida Rikou.
Opening of the exhibition and presentation of the workshop:Sunday 10 December at 13:30.

My contribution to the workshop was a handmade recipe book, reflecting on how to survive within the artworld. From hunter-gatherer practices, to actual recipes for healing stress-related maladies, to artists' food projects, this book is a brainstorming taking shape on paper.
