About food

About food is a workshop realised by Elpida Rikou and Dimitra Kondylatou between July 2016 and February 2017, within the framework of the residential project The island - resignified and the programme of TWIXTlab.
Food is a learned behaviour necessary for survival, a simple everyday practice resulting from complex techniques and traditions, referring to collective and subjective processes of continuous re-production, embodiment and transformation of culture. For the implementation of the workshops we proposed a series of activities aiming at a mental -and practical- mapping of the complex relations between food and materiality, corporeality, feeling, memory, history, society, politics and art. The activities included screenings, readings, conversations, performative exercises of eating / cooking / food processing and tours that concluded in the suggestions of specific and special menus to be consumed by all participants and visitors.
